Shelter Dogs Rock! pet adoption event

Oh boy, what a weekend we had I tell you. From April 30-May 2, thousands of people came to the largest annual pet adoption event in New England. With over 600 dogs available for adoption, the number of dogs that found new homes was estimated to be over 300!

The lines were long and hundreds waited for 4+ hours to fill out all the necessary paperwork and approval processes put in place so they can bring their beloved adoptees home. Now that's the greatest first impression of the type of love, patience and care that we hope these dogs will continue to experience after the harsh reality of shelter life.

Collar Me Chic was there ready to lend a helping hand by offering special shelter adoption prices for all their collar essentials. Dog Collar Measurement

Our #1 priority will always be that our pets are comfortable and safe so we wanted to go over how to measure your dog for the right size to order.

Above all other tips and tricks, we’ve always found it easiest to use your dog’s existing collar as the first place to start. If you have an existing pet collar, then you can simply use a soft tape to measure the inside of the dog collar with the buckle fastened to get at the right size in inches.

If this will be the first dog collar for your pet, then we suggest following a few simple steps that is quite accurate as well.

1. First, take a soft tape measure and wrap it around the thickest part of your dog’s neck, which is right near the shoulder.

2. Dog collars should be snug but with enough room to fit 2 more fingers under the collar, which is about another inch or two to the measurement to ensure a comfortable fit. Collars should also not be so tight that it restricts breathing or bending of his or her neck.

3. If your measurement is close to the upper end of a size, we recommend purchasing the next larger size. Likewise, if the measurement is close to the lower end of a size, purchasing the next smaller size is ideal if you don’t want too much leftover slack once the dog collar is buckled.

4. If your dog is just a puppy, please order the initial collar at the next larger size but please do check on your puppy’s collar size frequently as they will be growing at a rapid pace the first 6 months of their life.

*Important tips:

Always buy a dog collar with the right size. All too often we have seen people poke “extra” holes to make a wrong dog collar size fit. There is nothing particularly wrong with this practice but in the end, hasn't the style and the way it meant to be worn been compromised?
Every collar you own should have a current nametag with his or her name, your phone number and address attached to it at all times. This will be your pet's voice should they ever unfortunately get lost.

Here at long last, we’re starting what we hope will be a fun and exciting social watering hole to share some tips, facts and quirks on a regular basis with our chic dog collar enthusiasts. With so many options out there, how is one to choose a dog collar you ask? Our answer? Of course, why choose when you can buy several different really cool styles!?
